Oh, look what I found. A year old already, and Grandma is still right. How annoying.
I opened this one, had a chuckle, and thought: yes, you’re coming back up. “Don’t saw sawdust.” Still excellent advice. Especially when your brain decides an argument needs another rehearsal, despite everyone involved having gone home and possibly forgotten your name.
The perfect response always arrives late, doesn’t it? There you are, doing something completely unrelated, suddenly delivering the sentence that would have settled everything. Beautiful wording. Excellent timing, apart from being several hours out. Absolutely nobody available to appreciate it.
That’s the sort of nonsense her advice cuts through. You can know perfectly well that something is over and still feel tempted to give it another ten minutes. Just to establish, privately and in considerable detail, how right you were. Very satisfying. Changes nothing.
Reading it again made me laugh because the advice is so short, and there I was, writing an entire post about it. Grandma needed four words. Apparently, I needed a website.
Which probably tells you enough about what you’ve wandered into here.
This blog isn’t monetised. Zero sponsors, zero contracts. I write it because I want to, and you’re welcome to pull up a chair. Think of it as reading a friend’s notes: places, meals, mistakes, family stories, the occasional complaint that clearly needed somewhere to go.
You might arrive looking for something useful about a destination and find me discussing my grandmother instead. That happens. There’s a person writing this thing, and she occasionally gets distracted by her own archive.
I like that an old post can still make me chuckle. Some entries I’d change; this one, I wanted to share again. The thought still holds, and I don’t have a grand anniversary announcement to attach to it. I found it. Read it. Wanted you to see it too.
So here it is again: Don’t Saw Sawdust.
And if you’ve spent part of today mentally winning a conversation that ended yesterday, well. Welcome. Grandma has a few words for you. Luckily, it won’t take long. She was considerably more economical than me.
