Depending on your perspective, the Junk Cafe feels like a bar and restaurant within an old antique shop. Or like attending a party at a hoarder’s house. The cafe’s quirky design makes it a terrific spot to visit in Penang on its own. But the cuisine and beverages are also excellent!
Two shaky tables on Junk Cafe’s terrace stare out onto crowded Chulia Street. They are somewhat covered by plants on the street side, but not on the sidewalk side. So you’re constantly being passed by pedestrians. There are also two bouncy armchairs right next to Junk Cafe’s door. Passers-by will still walk over your outstretched legs. There are far more comfy seats if you wish to sit outside. You’re far enough away from the road that you won’t be breathing pollution the entire time. But there are just side tables adjacent to these seats, so sit here only if you’re not ordering food.
